Amid increasing tensions in the Middle East, Lebanon is witnessing back to back explosions of communication devices used by Hezbollah. At least 20 people killed and more than 450 were injured after walkie-talkies and other electronic devices used by the group on Wednesday. It happened just a day after thousands of pagers used by the militants exploded in Lebanon and parts of Syria, killing 12 people and injured some 3000 others.
According to Lebanese Government, some of the people killed in Wednesday’s blast were attending funerals of Tuesday’s pager blast victims. Hezbollah has accused Israel of carrying out the explosions, vowing serious retaliation against the country.
Although Israel is yet to comment on the explosions, the country’s Defence Minister has announced a new phase in the war. He also praised the works Israel’s army and security agencies.
The Iran -backed Hezbollah has engaged itself in cross -border clashes with Israel since the war with Hamas broke out in October last year. The group is known to use pagers and walkie-talkies for communication in an attempt to evade Israeli location tracking.
