5 DIE, MORE THAN 200 HOPITALISED AFTER CHENNAI AIRSHOW, DMK GOVT CRITICISED

The death of five spectators due to suspected heat stroke after the Indian Air Force airshow that was held in Chennai on Sunday has created a furore of short in Tamil Nadu politics with the opposition accusing the DMK government of poor planning and negligence.

The show was held at Marina Beach to mark the 92nd anniversary of the IAF. But the event soon became chaotic as thousands of people struggled with overcrowding and lack of basic amenities in the sweltering heat. More than 200 people are now hospitalized after the Sunday’s event, it is reported.

Facing severe criticism from the opposition Tamil Nadu Health Minister M Subramanian defended the state government’s efforts and claimed that it had gone above and beyond the IAF’s request for the event.
