This year, India’s Holi market is expected to surpass ₹60,000 crore. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has projected that the trade associated with the Holi festival will be 20% higher than last year. In the national capital, New Delhi alone, Holi-related business is estimated to reach ₹8,000 crore. The surge in consumer spending during the festival has significantly contributed to the expansion of the Holi market.
Along with the purchase of items directly linked to Holi celebrations, additional festival-related expenditures have been increasing the market size every year, and this year is no exception. According to CAIT, transactions worth several thousand crores have already taken place in this market, as Holi shopping has begun across the country with just two days left until the festival.
Markets are flooded with products ranging from traditional gulal (colored powders) to herbal and chemical-based colors, water guns, inflatable plastic bathtubs, various types of pichkaris (water sprayers), masks, and more. The wholesale Holi market has already generated thousands of crores in revenue.
Since sweets and fruits are closely associated with Holi celebrations, these products alone are expected to generate business worth several thousand crores across the country. Additionally, a growing fashion trend of wearing special Holi-themed shirts, T-shirts, and trousers is also driving significant spending.
It is noteworthy that special Holi events are now being organized in most northern Indian cities, including New Delhi. In major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and across northern India, banquet halls, public parks, farmhouses, and hotels are being booked for Holi celebrations, leading to massive commercial transactions.
CAIT has highlighted that the booming Holi market is a direct result of people’s enthusiasm for celebrating the festival, which has significantly boosted trade and business across the country.
