MANIPUR SITUATION: GOVT SUSPENDS INTERNET SERVICES, IMPOSES CURFEW

0

Once again the situation is tense in Manipur. Amid the ongoing clashes in the State, the Manipur government has imposed a five-day internet suspension from Tuesday and curfew in three districts. Congress, on the other hand has called for Union Home minister’s immediate intervention to control the situation.

Meanwhile, the higher education department has ordered both government and private colleges in the State to remain closed on September 11 and 12. The use of drones and rockets in attack has become a cause of concern for the police and the security forces in Manipur. At least eight people have died and over 12 injured in the recent wave of violence in the State, including drone and rocket attacks.

It is worthwhile to point out that more than 200 people have been killed and nearly 60 thousands rendered homeless in Manipur in ethnic clashes between Imphal valley-based Meiteis and hills-based Kukis since may last year.
