After evading arrest for more than a week in connection with a multi-crore online trading scam in Assam, actor and social media influencer Sumi Borah and her photographer husband Tarkik Borah were arrested by Dibrugarh Police on Thursday morning. Sumi Borah is said to be a close associate of Vishal Phukan, the kingpin of the scam.
Sumi in a video statement earlier on Wednesday refuted claims of deliberately avoiding arrest, stating that her absence was due to her emotional state in response to the criticism she had been facing. She claimed that she had been hiding not out of fear but because she was unable to respond to the media ‘s accusations. She also stated that she would fully cooperate with police in the investigation of the scam.
Earlier, police arrested Tarkik Borah’s brother Amlan Borah from Bihar in connection with the scam.
Meanwhile, Sumi and Tarkik’s arrest has given rise to many a question as to where they had been in hiding all these days. Reports cite many places across districts in Assam and even beyond the border of India.
However, the duo’s latest remarks seem not only to contradict each other but also the reports. Perhaps their sojourn awaits further police investigation.
