Pintu Mahra, a boatman from the Arail area, has set a powerful example of how hard work and faith can transform lives.

Pintu’s decision to invest in expanding his fleet from 60 to 130 boats for the Mahakumbh Mela demonstrates not just his commitment to his family’s tradition but also his ability to recognize a significant business opportunity. Despite the risks involved, such as mortgaging land and selling family jewelry, Mahra’s gamble paid off with remarkable success. Pintu said, “It took a lot of effort to build this, it took six months to get the boats ready”.

The Mahakumbh Mela is one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, attracting millions of pilgrims, and it offers ample business opportunities. This year, the Mahakumbh Mela was held from 13 January to 26 February 2025 at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s cited that Mahra’s success underscores the wider socio-economic benefits of such gatherings, where even individuals from humble backgrounds can experience a significant economic uplift.
