War of words is not a big deal; ending the ongoing war with Russia is what truly matters. After an unprecedented verbal clash with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has softened his stance, acknowledging that U.S. support is indispensable. Though he secured a loan of 2.44 billion GBP from Britain, healing the rift with the U.S. remains Ukraine’s top priority.
Zelensky, who left the White House after receiving threats from President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, remains a ‘hero’ in the eyes of his country and European allies for his uncompromising stance. However, he has no alternative but to seek U.S. assistance to free Ukraine from the torment of war. After Friday’s unexpected confrontation at the White House, a more pragmatic Zelensky has now come to terms with reality, stating that there is no way forward without U.S. aid.
At 10 Downing Street in London, Zelensky received a grand welcome and secured substantial funds to buy or manufacture weapons to resist Russian aggression. However, he admitted that ending the war without American efforts is impossible, and Ukraine’s defense would be unsustainable without U.S. support.
Softening his tone, Zelensky said, “I am grateful to the United States for all kinds of assistance. I am also grateful to President Trump. I appreciate the U.S. Congress and the American people. The people of Ukraine will always remember this support.”
He further emphasized, “We are ready to finalize mineral agreements. This is the first step toward ensuring our security. But that alone is not enough. Along with a ceasefire, we also seek guarantees for our country’s security.”
Meanwhile, most European allies have continued their support for Zelensky during this crisis. However, as Russian President Vladimir Putin hints at striking a mineral deal with the U.S., there is growing speculation about a potential shift in global diplomacy.
