EVICTION NOTICES ISSUED TO 150 FAMILIES IN ASSAM’S DOKONIA GRAZING RESERVE

Nearly 150 families living in the Dokonia Grazing Reserve in Hajo have received eviction notices from the district administration on Tuesday.

Following the issuance of the eviction notice, hundreds of residents have started dismantling their homes and preparing to leave the area voluntarily. Many of them have expressed support for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating they are leaving of their own accord in response to the government’s directive.

The affected families are appealing to the Assam Government to relocate them to a safe and secure location. Most of these families had settled in the Dokonia Grazing Reserve after losing their original homes to riverbank erosion.

This is not the first time the area has seen an eviction drive. In the past, the administration conducted similar operations to clear encroachments. However, due to the lack of alternative shelter, many displaced families had returned and rebuilt their homes within the reserve.
