A YouTuber Hafizur Rahman of Assam has been arrested by Lakhipur Police in connection with a child marriage case, following a complaint filed by the local Panchayat secretary.
The case centers on the marriage of a 17-year-old girl to Hafizur Rahman, who allegedly used a fake birth certificate to register the marriage. Official records show that the marriage was registered on August 14, 2019, while the birth certificate of his wife lists her date of birth as August 7, 2002 — indicating she was a minor at the time of the marriage.
Adding further controversy, the birth certificate of the couple’s daughter shows her date of birth as August 4, 2019 — ten days before the marriage was officially registered.
The incident came to light during the process of Hafizur Rahman’s nomination for the Panchayat elections, which was canceled due to the child marriage issue. Authorities noted discrepancies in the documents submitted, leading to further investigation. Legal proceedings are underway.
