On July 22, 2025, the family of renowned Assamese music director and composer Ramen Baruah will come together at Latasil in Guwahati, to celebrate his life, music, and enduring legacy. Marking exactly one year since his unexplained disappearance, the evening will serve as a collective expression of hope – that Baruah may yet return.
Titled “Jugamiya”, the cultural evening is being organized by Baruah’s well-wishers, the Guwahati Students’ Union, Unnayan Samiti, and Latasil Ganesh Mandir Committee. The program is scheduled from 6.30 PM.
Ramen Baruah is a household name in Assam’s cultural industry. He is best known for his work in Assamese Cinema, having composed for iconic films such as Dr. Bezbarua, Baruar Sansar, Mukuta, Lalita, and Kokadeuta. He also made a significant mark as a radio artist, earning admiration across generations.
Tragically, Baruah went missing on July 22, 2024, from the Latasil area in Guwahati. The last CCTV footage captured him near the Brahmaputra riverbank. Following this, intensive search operations were launched by the police along with NDRF and SDRF teams, but no conclusive leads have emerged to date.
Despite the absence of answers, hope remains alive. “Jugamiya” will reflect that spirit – not just mourning a disappearance, but celebrating a life that touched so many, and continuing to believe in his return.
The organizers extend a heartfelt invitation to all admirers and members of the public to attend and be part of this deeply emotional and musical evening of unity, remembrance, and hope.
